With over two decades of experience in investment banking at the senior leadership level, I have witnessed firsthand the critical challenges facing recruitment standards across our industry.

Identifying a Systemic Issue

In my capacity as Managing Director at a leading global financial institution, I have been extensively involved in graduate and internship recruitment programs. Through this experience, I observed significant disparities in interview methodologies and assessment criteria across the industry. High-caliber candidates were frequently eliminated due to inconsistent evaluation processes, while underqualified applicants advanced through poorly structured interviews at competing firms.

This inconsistency represented more than an operational inefficiency - it constituted a fundamental barrier to meritocratic talent acquisition. The industry was operating without standardised benchmarks, resulting in suboptimal hiring outcomes and inequitable candidate experiences.

Developing a Strategic Solution

To address this challenge within our organisation, I developed a comprehensive, standardised question repository during my limited time outside of daily responsibilities. This framework incorporated rigorous technical assessments, scenario-based evaluations, and competency focused behavioural interviews aligned with the actual requirements of junior finance professionals.

The implementation yielded measurable improvements: enhanced interview consistency, increased retention rates among new hires, and significantly improved candidate satisfaction metrics, regardless of final hiring decisions.

Unexpected Industry Demand

The effectiveness of our approach generated substantial interest from industry colleagues and peer institutions. Senior professionals from major financial institutions began requesting access to our methodology and question sets. What began as an internal improvement initiative quickly demonstrated the broader industry need for standardized recruitment tools.

Recognising this opportunity to drive industry-wide improvement, I established this platform complementary to my primary role in finance. The platform now aggregates expertise from senior professionals across investment banking, asset management, private equity, hedge funds, and quantitative finance, ensuring comprehensive coverage of industry-specific competencies.
